Stronger Together. Brighter Tomorrow.

About Fishtown District:

When businesses thrive, so does the neighborhood.

The Fishtown Kensington Area Business Improvement District (FKABID) helps keep our neighborhood cleaner, safer, and more beautiful for everyone who lives, works, and visits here. By supporting local improvements and community pride, we create a place where businesses can thrive and creativity can flourish

The Fishtown Kensington BID gives local businesses a unified voice and real resources to shape the future of their community.

The BID is a business-funded initiative dedicated to improving the vitality, safety, and visibility of one of Philadelphia’s most dynamic and rapidly growing commercial corridors. This formally authorized organization and defined commercial area was created through an ordinance by the Philadelphia City Council. A BID means that property and business owners contribute to the BID to fund services and improvements beyond what the city provides. If your business falls within the BID boundaries, you’re part of a collective effort to enhance the neighborhood in ways that benefit everyone, from independent entrepreneurs to larger enterprises.

What are the official boundaries? FKABID encompasses commercial properties in the Fishtown and Kensington areas of Philadelphia, including rental properties and businesses along Frankford Avenue from E. Lehigh Avenue to Poplar Street and Aramingo Avenue to Front Street.

Our Mission & Why It Matters

As a business or visitor, you benefit from our efforts to improve the commercial environment through services that:

Keep It Clean: Crew in Blue & Community Corps

Ensure streets and sidewalks are well-maintained. Our Crew in Blue from Ready Willing & Able and the Fishtown Community Corps. handle trash removal, sidewalk sweeping, graffiti removal, and litter abatement, all to ensure your storefront is welcoming to customers.

Capital Improvements

Investments in infrastructure and beautification projects add value to your property. Sidewalk repairs, tree planting, lighting, benches, signage, and other enhancements increase foot traffic and curb appeal.

Safety & Security: Ambassador Program

Through strategic partnerships and supplemental funding, the Fishtown Kensington BID enhances lighting and security efforts, working closely with local authorities and neighborhood watch groups to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for customers, employees, and neighbors. Our Fishtown Ambassadors act as friendly guides, keeping an eye out for safety concerns, assisting visitors, and serving as welcoming representatives of the neighborhood.

Marketing & Promoting Local Businesses

The FKABID supports marketing and promotional efforts to boost economic growth. We promote the businesses within our district through coordinated campaigns, social media, events, and collaborative branding efforts that attract more visitors, shoppers, and diners to the area.

Not Inside the BID? You’re in Luck!

Before the creation of the Fishtown Kensington BID, Fishtown Co. was born from a simple idea: to connect local businesses, share ideas, pool resources, and promote the vibrant spirit of our neighborhood. While the BID serves much of the area, some businesses fall just beyond its borders, and that’s where Fishtown Co. steps in.

By becoming a member, you can tap into many of the same benefits as the BID, from marketing and events to community improvements and join a network of passionate business owners shaping the future of Fishtown together. Let’s grow, collaborate, and keep Fishtown thriving!

A Stronger Voice for Fishtown

The Fishtown Kensington Area Business Improvement District is a Registered Community Organization (RCO) approved by the City of Philadelphia. This means we receive zoning notifications and can review development proposals within our area. Our goal is to give local businesses and residents a stronger voice in shaping responsible, safe, and collaborative growth for our community.

Board of Directors

The FKBID is overseen by a Board of Directors comprising residents, business and property owners, and other stakeholders. Together with our executive team, they guide the allocation of funds and the implementation of programs that align with our mission. The FKABID Board of Directors will soon have a posted schedule of regular monthly meeting times and locations.
