Welcome to the 2023 Annual Report for the Fishtown Kensington Area Business Improvement District (FKABID). This year, we’ve made tremendous strides in advancing our mission to enhance the community through targeted investments in capital improvements, marketing initiatives, and cleaning programs.

 

1. Capital Improvements

In 2023, we prioritized infrastructure upgrades that support local businesses and enhance the neighborhood’s appeal.

• Street Beautification Projects:
  • Installed new planters and maintained vibrant landscaping to enhance curb appeal.
  • Add the pedestrian seating area at Cecil B Moore and Front Street
• Lighting & Security Enhancements:
  • Upgraded streetlights to energy-efficient LED fixtures for safer and more inviting streets.
  • Additional security cameras were added throughout the major intersections.
• Pedestrian and Bike Accessibility:
  • Improved sidewalks and added bike racks to encourage foot and bike traffic.
  • Enhanced crosswalks for greater safety and accessibility.

These improvements not only elevate the aesthetic appeal of Fishtown and Kensington but also make the area more functional and attractive to residents, visitors, and businesses alike.

Our marketing efforts in 2023 were designed to promote the district as a vibrant hub for dining, shopping, and entertainment.

2. Community Events:

• • Hosted successful events like the Valentine’s Art Walk, Kensington Derby,  and Fishtown Freeze, drawing thousands of attendees.
• Digital Presence:
  • Launched an business directory on our website.
  • Expanded our social media presence, increasing engagement by 35%.
• Collaborative Campaigns:
  • Partnered with local businesses for seasonal promotions and giveaways.
  • Developed the “Fishtown Taps” campaign to bring new customers to the taverns and restaurants on Tuesdays and used influencer partnerships to promote.

These initiatives have boosted foot traffic, increased visibility for local businesses, and strengthened the district’s reputation as a must-visit destination.

3. Cleaning and Maintenance

A clean and well-maintained environment is crucial for fostering a welcoming community. In 2023, FKABID doubled down on its commitment to cleanliness.

• Daily Cleaning Services:
  • Collected over 4,700 bags of trash and debris from sidewalks and public spaces.
  • Regularly pressure-washed high-traffic areas to maintain a fresh appearance.
• Graffiti Removal:
  • Successfully removed graffiti, restoring the district’s charm.
• Fishtown Community Corps:
  • Added the daily cleaners in the afternoons to clean away trash from the district, including weekends.

These efforts ensure that Fishtown District remains a clean and inviting space for everyone.
